Science TEKS   NEISD Technology Standards
1.2d Construct reasonable explanations and draw conclusions. N1 Log on to the network using personal username by the end of the first 9 weeks.
1.3A Make decisions using information N2 Log off of the network.
1.5A Sort objects and events based on properties and patterns N3 Create, name, and save files to personal directory on the network.
1.6A Sort organisms and objects according to their parts and characteristics N4 Access files in personal directory and on the student shared directory.
N6 Print to a networked printer using the printer icon.
    B1 Use My Computer to navigate to available drives.
B3 Exit programs by clicking on the "X" in the upper right hand corner of a program window.
    B4 Use the left click button on the mouse to select or drag objects on the screen.
    B7 Understand and properly use Save and Save As.
    M1 Open an existing presentation on the student-shared directory.
    M2 Use a teacher created template to complete and activity.
    M5 Add text to slides.
    M7 Add clipart.

Can You Tell? (PowerPoint)
This activity should take 2-3 weeks in the lab to complete.

  1. Slide 1: Students type their name on title slide.
  2. Slide 2: Discuss the characteristics of the animal within the oval grouper. Model how to click and drag animals outside of the group which have the common characteristics to the inside of the grouper. Students complete after teacher models. NOTE: Groups may be formulated in several different ways!
  3. Slide 3: Discussing characteristic of animals, student must type in common characteristic next to the *.
  4. Slides 4-7: Follow same procedure as used on slides 2 and 3.
  5. Slides 8-10: Using the characteristic heading on each slide, students must insert at least 3 clipart pictures which include the characteristic.
  6. Slides 11-12: Students must decide how the groups of pictures are alike and type a sentence which describes what the common characteristic is.
  7. Upon completion of activity, project may be printed by using the following directions: Click on "File/Print". Next to "Print What", select the "Handouts" choice with 6 on a page.
