Kindergarten Handbook (printable adobe pdf)PhilosophyKindergarten is to build habits that will enhance future learning experiences. Emphasis is placed on the uniqueness of each child's imagination, independence, curiosity, and style of learning. Kindergarten experiences should nurture in each child a positive self-image and a respect and appreciation for others, and a love for learning. Children should have the opportunity to practice thinking, problem solving, decision making, and social skills. The kindergarten program should help children "make sense of the world" and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for responsible behavior. These attitudes will influence their learning throughout their school years. Experiences are direct and concrete and build the foundation for more abstract learning in later years. Kindergarten should provide the opportunity for children to interact with people, the environment, and materials that help the child grow toward levels of physical maturity, social competence, emotional control, and mental alertness. Kindergarten should help children develop a varied interest, a habit of success, a love of learning, a sense of wonder, and a strong sense of self that will enrich their lives. It Looks Like Play, But We Are Learning |
