QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Completion of two years of study at a college or university of higher education and/or possess as Associate's Degree or higher from a college or university (Required for Employment in Title 1 Schools Only)
  • Possess some experience working with children
  • One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District
  • Pass Texas and National CRC and Fingerprint Check
  • Training in behavior management and restraint techniques as prescribed by the District
  • Must be able to pass physical and drug test
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds with assistance
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirement of the District
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Helps teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Helps student take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene
  • Helps meet individual needs of student
  • Works with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills, teach proper grooming, teach students how to prepare to go to work, teach proper work habits, teach students how to have a good attitude about work, teach students what it is like in the real world and contact instructional exercises assigned by teacher
  • Assists student with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and/or positioning
  • Helps with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment
  • Helps teacher keep administrative records and prepares required reports as directed by the teacher
  • Assumes responsibilities  for student's learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, academic, communicative and emotional needs
  • Keeps teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  • Participates in professional development programs, faculty meetings special events as assigned
  • Assists assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom - This may include lunchroom, bus and playground duty
  • Performs additional duties as may be assigned

$10.51-$13.14 PAY GRADE: I-2 WORK DAYS: 179
