LEAD INTERPRETER

SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Minimum of sixty hours college courses in Interpreter Training Program Associate's Degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from four college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience a plus
  • Texas Commission for the Deaf Interpreter Certification(BEI) must have on of the following: Level III, Level IV or Registry of Interpreters (RID) equivalent of Texas Level III and IV
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of the Code of Ethics (Texas Board of Evaluators-BEI or Registry of Interpreters-RID) and how it is adapted for an educational setting as well as the ability to in service interpreters and school staff on appropriate execution of interpreter roles and ethics in the North East Independent School District (NEISD) Auditorily Impaired Program
  • Provides the most comprehensive interpreting services to students in advanced academic and technical courses, films, Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings, "platform" interpreting for in services, assemblies, plays, counseling sessions and appraisal evaluations for deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff
  • Possesses a through working knowledge of a variety of sign systems in order to evaluate interpreters for employment and assist in the scheduling of interpreters for the most appropriate placement assignments
  • Coordinates interpreter schedules at the beginning of the year and makes on-going changes as necessary with the appropriate Auditorily Impaired Teacher and/or Auditorily Impaired Coordinator
  • Arranges for substitute interpreters and schedules interpreters for extracurricular events as necessary
  • Continuously models correct interpreter/student roles
  • Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned

$18.82- $22.67 PAY GRADE: I6 WORK DAYS: 179
