EDUCATIONAL SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER - II ADVANCED
SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
FEDERAL/GRANT FUNDED
STAFFING OF THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Minimum of twelve (12) hours college courses in Interpreter Training Program Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District
  • Texas Commission for the Deaf interpreter Certification (BEI) Level lll or Level IV or Registry of Interpreters (RID) Intermediate Level or Higher Certification or equivalent to BEI Levels III, IV or Advanced with current CEU's
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of the Code of Ethics (Texas Board of Evaluators-BEI or Registry of Interpreters-RID) and how it is adapted for an educational setting
  • Interprets for lectures, films, content area courses at a higher technical level than daily conversational vocabulary for such courses, assemblies, Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings, counseling sessions and appraisal evaluations for the deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff
  • Provides complex expressive sign interpreting and sign to voice interpreting involving intermediate to advanced sign language skills which may include a form of Signed English, American Signed language and/or oral interpreting 
  • Uses the appropriate sign system for each student as designated by the Auditorily Impaired Coordinator (AIC) and Admission, Review, Dismissal Committee (ARD)
  • Provides tutorial assistance to deaf/hard-of-hearing students when directed by the AI Coordinator or designee of the AI Coordinator
  • May provide mentoring to uncertified or Level I Sign language Interpreters as assigned by the Auditorily Impaired Coordinator or Coordinator's designee
  • Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned

$18.82-$22.67 PAY GRADE: I6 WORK DAYS: 179
