ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST
SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology, Special Education or State Licensure in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy
  • Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in Special Education or Speech Pathology or Speech Pathology License or State Licensure in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy
  • Valid Texas Driver License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Consults with campus staff including regular education teachers, special education teachers, speech language pathologists, physical therapists and occupational therapists regarding instructional strategies which are beneficial to students using assistive technology equipment
  • Provides low-tech materials for use in the regular and special education classrooms as needed
  • Assists appraisal staff in arena assessments as requested
  • Consults with appraisal staff regarding assistive technology issues in evaluation
  • Monitors students academic/IEP progress when assistive technology equipment/strategies are recommended
  • Provides in-service to parents of assistive technology students as requested
  • Assists as needed in implementing assistive technology in the home setting to support IEP goals and objectives
  • Pursues individual or third party payment/reimbursement for student's personal equipment as needed
  • Provides assistive technology services through Extended Years Service (EYS) as needed
  • Ensures that all pertinent assistive technology information is included in each student's eligibility file
  • Facilitates school/program transitions of students using assistive technology
  • Keeps updated on legal issues involving assistive technology service and delivery in public schools
  • Maintains past and current assistive technology student roster
  • Maintains assistive technology equipment inventory
  • Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
SALARY: $52,791-$64,774 PAY GRADE: A3 WORK SCHEDULE: Eleven Months
