Sentence Fluency

 

Writing Prompt:  Write a composition about the thing that makes you happy.

Effective Writing Trait:  Sentence Fluency

 

Focused Revision / Editing:

  • 4.18B:  Write in complete sentences, varying the types such as compound and complex to match meanings and purposes.
  • 4.19E:  Edit drafts for specific purposes such as to ensure standard usage, varied sentence structure, and appropriate word choice.

Students will prepare to use the prompt stated and write their compositions.

Students will visualize the importance of sentence variety in their work.

Day 3

Off to a Good Start

To help students understand that sentences begin in different ways.

Day 4

"No Becauses,, Ands, or Buts"

Students will work with different sentence constructions to enhance the fluency of their writing. 

Day 5

 Focused Revision and Editing Using Student Papers

Students will analyze examples of compositions using the focused revision and editing TEK.  Then, students return to their compositions to revise and edit.
