VOICE

Writing Prompt:  Write a composition about a game or sport you enjoy.

Effective Writing Trait:  Voice

Focused Revision / Editing:

  • 4.15E  exhibit an identifiable voice in personal narratives and stories (4-5) 
  • 4.18C  employ standard English usage in writing for audiences including subject-verb agreement, pronoun referents, and parts of speech (4-8)

MINI-LESSON: 

GOAL:

Day 1

Preparing to Write Using a Prompt

Students will prepare to use the prompt stated above and write their compositions.

Day 2

Ba-Da-Bing 

Students will exhibit strong voice by writing an interesting lead.

Day 3

Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement

Students will use standard English usage for audiences, including pronouns.

Day 4

Shopping List

Students write a class composition about an item on the list in an original way;  then choose an item and write their own composition.

Day 5

Focused Revision and Editing using Student Papers

Students will analyze examples of compositions.  Then students return to their compositions to revise and edit.
