ORGANIZATION

 

Writing Prompt:  Write a composition about a time when you learned a lesson.

Focused Revision / Editing:

  • 4.19B:  Develop drafts by categorizing ideas, organizing them into paragraphs, and blending paragraphs within larger units of text.
  • 4.19C:  Revise drafts for drafts by adding, elaborating, deleting, combining and rearranging texts. 

   

          MINI-LESSON                                              GOALS

Day 1

Preparing To Write Using A Prompt

Students will prepare to use the prompt stated and write their compositions.

Day 2

Use the 2-3-1 Format for Organization

Students will explore various ways to organize their writing.

Day 3

Experiment with Endings

   

The teacher will model three different examples of endings specified resource materials (see appendix).  Students will then gather in groups to look at examples of endings from

Day 4

Getting Out of the Maze

    

Using a random list of details/events from an expository or narrative composition, the students will work in pairs to delete what does not matter, fill in what's missing and effectively sequence remaining ideas.

Day 5

Focused Revision and Editing Using Student Papers

Students will analyze examples of compositions using the focused revision and editing TEK.  Then, students return to their compositions to revise and edit.
