The purpose of
the writing block is to build fluency in writing, to implement the
whole writing
process, and to build student confidence as writers and assessors
of good writing. To support these goals, students are instructed in
the principles of effective writing using the
6-Trait Writing
model. Writing instruction occurs in the context of a daily writing
workshop, using explicit writing instruction in the mini lesson, and
employing writing as a tool of learning across all subject areas.
