IKE READS! Reading Incentive Programs

Ike Book Club

The Eisenhower Library sponsors three monthly book clubs for students, with the purpose of bringing together students who love to read.

Students in 6th-8th grades meet once a month in the library during their lunch period to discuss our monthly book choices.

The club is open to all students, with parent and teacher approval. For more information about the Ike Book Club, see Librarian Teresa Diaz's Teacher Web page.

Lone Star Readers Reading Program

What is the Lone Star Reading Program?

It’s a reading incentive program at Ike Library based on a recommended reading list compiled each year by the Texas Library Association’s Young Adult Round Table.  It consists of 20 titles that are recommended annually for students at the middle school level.  Titles represent many genres of literature such as historical fiction, mystery, fantasy, adventure, realistic fiction, etc.

Where Can I Find This List?

Access the list on the Web at http://www.txla.org/groups/yart/lonestarlists.html

We have a special Lone Star book display and bookmarks available for students in the Eisenhower library.  The list is also available at any local public library.  Even your local bookstore can assist you in locating Lone Star Titles.

How can students participate?

Simply by readingat least five of the books on the current Lone Star list.

Once students finish reading a Lone Star title, they should add their name to the LSR reading log in the library, and then complete a Lone Star Readers Book form available in the library.

What will participants receive?

Besides the enjoyment of reading quality fiction and nonfiction tailored for middle school readers, participants who read at least 5 Lone Star books will receive an invitation to the Lone Star Luncheon, sponsored by the library in May.

For more information about the Lone Star Readers program, see Librarian Teresa Diaz's Teacher Web page.
