Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
The flu has made a strong appearance at Driscoll, as well as the rest of our city. We are taking precautions to safeguard our children. In an effort to curtail the spread of the flu, NEISD will be providing an opportunity for every student to receive an H1N1 vaccination. Vaccination is purely voluntary and only with parental consent. As soon as the vaccine is available we will advise all of our families when and where students can receive the vaccination.
In the meantime, please remember that your child should stay home if they are sick until they are without fever for at least 24 hours without medication (i.e., Tylenol, etc.). Symptoms of flu include fever (usually high), headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, and sometimes stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Visit www.flu.gov for official flu information.
This year we are going to do our best to involve and engage our parents. We want you to know what your children are learning, and how you can help them at home. Monday, September 28, 2009, from 6 pm to 7 pm, we will have our Math night. There will be a brief meeting at 6pm to provide information on some valuable resources. After that, parents will have a chance to visit the workstations set up by the teachers and gain some great practical experiences. We will be having other nights for our other subject areas. Come join us, we really want to see you there!
TELEVISION SALE! On Saturday, October 3, 2009, we will have a sale of our surplus televisions from 10 am to 12pm. Last summer our televisions were replaced with projectors in every classroom. We will be selling our televisions for $30 each. They are 27” Magnavox, Zenith, JVC, and RCA televisions. In addition, we will have a limited number of VCR and VCR/DVD combos for sale. VHS players will sell for $10 each, and VCR/DVD combos will sell for $20. All sales are cash only. Items are sold as is; all sales are final with no refunds. Proceeds will go to benefit Driscoll Middle School. The public is welcome.
This week we will have EARLY RELEASE FOR PARENT CONFERENCES on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 29 and 30, and October 1. Students will be released at 1:30 on each of these days. Normal bus routes will be running at that time. If you pick up your children, please make sure to pick them up or arrange to have them picked up them at 1:30.
As a reminder to all parents who attend athletic events at home or away, it is essential that we show appropriate spectator behavior. Anyone entering the playing area or verbally abusing the coaches, officials, or students is subject to being removed from the game and may face removal from all athletic events. Please let the coaches take care of the coaching and dealing with the officials. It is extremely important for us to model appropriate behavior at any function. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
