History of Dellview This year Dellview celebrates its 50th year of operation. The first homes in the Dellview community were built in 1953. Dellview Elementary was constructed in 1956 on a parcel of 10 acres of land and opened its door in 1957 with twenty four classrooms in grades 1st-5th. In 1958, an annex consisting of eight rooms was added to accommodate the addition of students in 6th grade. The first library was a bookroom in the annex that was originally built as a janitor's closet. From that it grew to a classroom in the main building to the present. Presently, the Carolyn Wease Brown Library was constructed in 2001 and named in honor of the school's reading teacher. Mrs. Brown has contributed 45 years to the Dellview Community. In 1961, the enrollment was over 1,100 students in 38 classrooms. The staff consisted of 38 teachers, a principal, 2 vice-principals, PE teacher, 2 music teachers, librarian and a nurse. Over 20 years later, the enrollment had dropped so low that the district decided that it be best to close after the 1983-84 school year. The community rallied and showed such tremendous support that the school was allowed to stay open. Dellview has excelled academically and has received many awards of excellence. In 1997, Governor George W. Bush (President Bush) recognized Dellview as one of twelve Texas Spotlight Reading Schools. In 1999, the school was selected as the Texas Exemplary Reading School, an honor given to only one elementary in Texas each year. In 1999, Dellview was selected to receive the International Reading School Award which is given to only twenty one schools, internationally. Dellview was also selected as a Title 1 Distinguished School in 2001, 2002, and 2003. Presently, Dellview is a Texas Recognized campus. Dellview continues to grow and change as we strive to provide our students with the quality education that has made Dellview a successful school. Our core belief is that "College Begins in Kindergarten and Everyone is on Track to Exemplary!" We have: One Vision One Goal Every Student Every Teacher
