Women's History Month
Celebrated Throughout March
In 1978, the school district of Sonoma County, California celebrated "Women's History Week" during the week of March 8th. Following an increase in participation and interest across the country, Congress approved the creation of Women's History Week as a national holiday in 1981. Congress then expanded the focus to the entire month of March in 1987. Today, schools, communities, and individuals celebrate the achievements and contributions of great women.
