What is Dual Credit? Expectations Qualifications of Instructors

The Dual Credit Program is a partnership between North East ISD and San Antonio College.  

Dual Credit is :
  • a program that allows eligible high school students to earn college credit for certain courses such as English, math, science, and foreign languages.  (The offerings vary from campus to campus.)
  • a curriculum that adheres to college level standards.  (As with all transferring courses, it is up to the accepting college or university to honor dual credit work.)
  • is free to North East eligible students on their home campus while they are taking high school courses for high school graduation credit.
Expectations of the Dual Credit Program
  • Students will complete requirements of both the high school curriculum and the college-level curriculum concurrently.
  • Students will honor all enrollment deadlines and requirements.
  • Students will contact their college or university of intent for acceptability of transferring credits prior to graduation.

Qualifications of a Dual Credit Instructor

North East I.S.D. high school teachers who meet the minimal San Antonio College System and THELB requirements for Community College faculty may teach a dual credit course.

The minimum standards are:

  • 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline
  • holding at least a master's degree.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for a dual credit program, a North East student must:
  • meet one of these requirements:
    • a TAAS score of 1770 on the writing sample, 89 on reading, and 86 on math.
    • passed the TAAS and the meets the minimum score required on the TASP (Writing 220, Reading 230, Math 230).
    • passed the TAAS and meets the minimum score requirements of an Alternative TASP such as the ACUPLACER (available through San Antonio College).
    • passed the TAAS and scored a combined 1070 or higher on the SAT with a minimum 500 Verbal score and a 500 Math score.
    • passed the TAAS and has a 23 or better on the ACT (minimum 19 on English and 19 on Math).
    • TAKS - English/Language Arts 44 with at least a 2 on the essay adn/or Math 25.

  • completed and submitted all paperwork:
  • Dual Credit Student Data Form (side one) and Dual Credit Currently Enrolled Student Form
  • Student Tracking Survey
  • Dual Credit Residency Form
  • High School transcript with TAAS/TAKS scores
  • SAT or ACT scores or official TASP or Alternative TASP scores
  • Military Verification Form (only if student's parent is on active military duty)
  • a parent or guardian signature on the enrollment form
  • met deadline for enrollment
