Welcome to the Coker Counseling Office
The Coker Counselors are
Mrs. Amy Rule & Mrs. Stephanie Rigby
The Coker counselors address all children at all levels in a developmentally appropriate way to teach them the skills they need to know in life. We are not therapists but do provide intervention to developmental needs and crisis intervention.
Current Counseling News ********* Character Education We are pleased to announce that we will be continuing the Knights of the Guild character education program for the second year. Coker has joined forces with Northeast Rotary and Knights of the Guild to establish a 360 degree character education program for the entire campus. "The Code" curriculum focuses on one virtue a month that is discussed in the classroom on a weekly basis. A knight, from Knights of the Guild, visits our campus every 30 days to award students who have excelled in the particular virtue. Students are awarded at Knighting Ceremonies where they receive the honor of being a "Squire", a "Page" or a "Knight". If your child is selected to receive an award, you will receive a phone call inviting you to the ceremony. Check the Coker calendar for scheduled Knighting Ceremonies.
Northeast Rotary sponsors Coker's Early Act First Knight Service Club. Rotarians meet with the service club members and officers, twice a month, and model "service above self". Club members will hold three service projects throughout the school year... one campus, one community and one international! We are so thankful to have the support of the Northeast Rotary Club. ********** Testing The TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Inventory) is a state test that is given to all first and second graders three times a year (beginning, middle and end). This test will be given during the testing window of September 8-19. Kinder students will take the test during the October 6-17 window and then again at the end of the school year. Results will be sent home. If you need assistance interpreting the test results, please contact your child's teacher or counselor.
********** Group Counseling The counselors will continue to hold small group counseling sessions on an as needed basis. Children can participate in these sessions only with the permission of the parent. If a child is referred by a staff member to a counseling group, the parent will be contacted for permission. If you, as a parent, feel like your child would benefit from small group services, please contact the counseling office. Sessions may include topics like Family Changes (moving, baby, separation, divorce, etc.), Social Skills, Making Friends but we can make arrangements for any situation. ********* Individual Counseling Students may be referred to the counseling office by a parent, staff member, a peer or they may come on their own. Counselors will address the student's needs in a developmentally appropriate way and teach them the skills they need for coping or overcoming the issue at hand.
