Choral music is art, skill and activity.  The NEISD content standards for middle school and high school choirs are the benchmarks for instruction.  The program consists of group performance as well as individual instruction.

Choral music in offered as an elective The schedules include men’s choirs, women’s choirs, mixed voice choirs, and vocal ensembles, which include show choirs, vocal jazz ensembles and madrigal choirs.  Private voice lessons are available on all high school campuses.

Choirs on all campuses participate in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest; Solo and Ensemble Contest; and auditions for Region Choir.  Singers at the high school level proceed from Region Choir through Top-10 and Area Auditions, in pursuit of a place in the All-State Choir.

Each choir performs approximately four concerts per year. Some high school programs add additional performance opportunities such as a major musical production in cooperation with the theatre department; a Madrigal Dinner; a "Cabaret-style" dinner show or other innovative venues.

In the spring, choirs have the opportunity to participate in competitions and festivals hosted in other areas. Middle school choirs may travel within the state of Texas and high school choirs may travel nationally and abroad.
