TO THE PARENTS OF BUSH CHOIR MEMBERS:

Welcome to the Barbara Bush Choral Department!  This is an exciting time as we continue the tradition of excellence we have established.  The Bush choir will provide many opportunities for students to perform, compete and increase their skill as a young artist in the field of vocal music.

The goal of the Barbara Bush Middle School Choir is to create a quality fine arts experience, instill a sense of community among its members, encourage each member to strive for personal and group excellence, and nurture a shared appreciation of vocal music by both performers and their audience.

A quality fine arts experience: It is my belief that humans have an innate need for self-expression.  Singing provides us with a unique way of sharing the human experience with others through words and music.  It enables us to connect with our individual emotions and the emotions of others.

A sense of community:  The choir will offer all of its members a supportive community and a place to belong.  When we work together towards a common goal, our respect and appreciation of each other blossoms.  We will build camaraderie within our choir through activities such as performances, competitions, social events, and service to the community.

Striving for personal and group excellence:  The ability to perform artistically does not come easily.  It is a learned skill that requires discipline, determination and countless hours of hard work.  Quality performances occur when the performers are willing to work diligently toward a goal of excellence.  Through this process, students will learn to rely on internal gratification, build their self-esteem, and develop a strong work ethic.  They learn what it takes to succeed in life!

Appreciation of vocal music: Of all the forms of musical expression, singing presents itself as the most personal.  It is my goal to expose each choir member to various genres of good vocal music.  As the students' love and appreciation for vocal music grow, they will then serve as musical ambassadors to our audiences.
