ford aaa Ford AAA is a competition cosponsored by AAA and Ford Motor Company to encourage talented young people to pursue careers as automotive service technicians.This is a nationwide competition for 11th & 12 th grade ATA students. Students take an online exam during spring at ATA and the highest scoring students from the school becomes the team score and counts 40% in the state finals. If a team gets to attend this competition all expenses are paid and there are numerous opportunities for prizes and awards. ie.scholarships,trophies,jackets,shop tools,etc.
skillsusa Skills USA is a competition held during February at the St. Philips Southwest Campus for 13 schools in the District 11 area. They compete in timed contests and only the top 10 students get to compete in a hands on event. The Skills USA Championships is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.
pci of 2 summer camp studeents Summer Camp - This past year our current ATA students gave up their month of June to attend a camp called Basic Transmission Repair. The students attended this 4 week course taught by Mr. Izzi and Mr. Pacheco and learned about the theory on mechanical parts and the automatic transmission, to name a few.They removed/rebuilt/and re-installed four complete transmissions and four bench overhauls during the length of the course.
dye Scholarship Recipients -The David B. Dye memorial scholarship fund was established in honor and memory of this automotive instructor during the 2007-2008 school year. Mr. Dye started teaching for North East in 1994 at Churchill High School prior to the consolidation of the automotive programs. He taught at ATA for two years while battling lung cancer. After his death, his wife and family knew how he loved kids and teaching . They established this fund to help students continue their education.
