Johnson Girls Win Regional Title

The University Interscholastic League Region IV Soccer Tournament concluded last weekend with the Johnson Jaguars girls winning the regional title in a hard fought match against Churchill.  The match went through regulation, overtime and the 5th girl in a shoot-out before it was finally decided.  With this victory, the Lady Jaguars will advance to the State tournament in Georgetown.  The Lady Jags play Southlake Carroll at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 19.

In the boys division, Brownsville Hanna defeated Jay of San Antonio by a score of 2-0.  The Eagles took control of the match in the second half to come away with the victory.  Hanna also advances to the State tournament.

We also had the MacArthur boys in the tournament.  The Brahmas played Jay on Friday night and lost an exciting match by a score of 2-1.  It should be noted that both the MacArthur boys and Churchill girls had outstanding seasons as well as the Johnson girls.

In first round girls matches Johnson defeated Los Fresnos on Friday afternoon by a score of 4-0.  The Lady Jags were dominate from start to finish.  In the second match of the afternoon, the Churchill Lady Chargers defeated Del Rio by a score of 4-1.  The Lady Chargers were equally dominate in their match against Del Rio.

The North East athletic department thanks the many soccer fans who showed up both Friday and Saturday for the matches.  The soccer was outstanding and the attendance for the two days helped provide an atmosphere that created one of our best regional tournaments in many years.  We encourage as many Jaguar fans as possible to attend the state tournament.  The site is the Georgetown Stadium which is located behind Georgetown High School.  There will be four outstanding girl’s teams representing the four UIL regions in Texas.  The Lady Jags have reached a coveted level of achievement and we wish them the best as they pursue a state championship.
