Reagan Baseball Wins UIL Silver Medal
The Reagan Rattlers went to the State Baseball Tournament and came away with the Silver medal. They finished the season as the #2 team in class 5A out of some 245 class 5A high schools. Congratulations to the Rattlers for a very successful baseball season.
The State tournament included Pearland, Humble Atascocita, Lewisville Marcus and Reagan. On Friday the Rattlers defeated Atascocita 5-4 in an exciting contest. The Rattlers fell behind 3-0 and came back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to take the lead. After Atascocita tied the score in the next inning, the Rattlers pushed across the deciding run to advance to the state championship game. Earlier that Friday, Marcus High School defeated Pearland in the other semi-final game. On Saturday the Rattlers lost a tough contest to Lewisville Marcus. It seemed that every ball Reagan hit was directly to a Marcus player and it was just the opposite for the Lewisville hitters. The Rattlers walked away disappointed with the results of the championship game but very pleased with a Silver medal in UIL 5A baseball.
NEISD has had many outstanding baseball teams. The competitiveness of class 5A baseball is very high. We have had numerous teams in the regional finals and yet Reagan became the first North East baseball team to reach the State tournament since MacArthur in 1987. The Reagan Rattlers and Coach Chans Chapman are to be congratulated for an outstanding season.
Reagan Baseball Advances to the State Tournament
The Reagan Rattlers have successfully navigated through five rounds of the baseball playoffs to reach the State tournament. There will be four class 5A teams in the State tournament which takes place at Dell Diamond on June 6 & 7. The semifinal games are Friday at 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm. The Rattlers will be in the 3:00 pm slot against Atascocita from Humble outside of Houston. The championship game will be Sat. at 11:30 am.
In one of the most exciting playoff games in recent memory, the Rattlers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Eagle Pass 2-1 in the Regional finals. Eagle Pass had won the flip for a one game playoff. The two teams met this past Friday at Veterans Field in Laredo.
In a pitching duel involving Troy Montemayor from Reagan and the Eagle Pass pitcher, both teams had been held scoreless through six innings. In the top of the seventh inning Eagle Pass scored to take the lead. The Rattlers came up for their last chance and with one out their hitters took charge of the game. Zack Morrow was hit by a pitch. Jack Thompson singled to place runners at first and second. Ben Brookover followed with a double scoring the tying run. With runners on second and third Drew Brooks was given an intentional walk to load the bases. Freshmen Cade Bormet followed with a double over the right fielder to clear the bases. Only the first runner across the plate counts for a winning margin of 2-1.
Reagan became the first North East baseball team to reach the State tournament since MacArthur in 1987.
Go get’em Rattlers on Friday in the State tournament.
