Congratulations to Jace Amaro
Jace Amaro, senior athlete at MacArthur High School, has been selected as the Boys Athlete of the Year by the San Antonio Express-News. The honor covers all San Antonio schools as well as those within surrounding counties. Since this award has been given, beginning in 2002, it has gone to Jacob Gutierrez and Chris Caflisch of Madison, Jimmy Feigen of Churchill and now Jace Amaro of MacArthur High School.
Jace is one of the most outstanding athletes to ever come out of San Antonio. At 6 foot-5 and 240 pounds he has been an imposing figure in football, basketball and track. He not only has physical size but his speed and endurance has allowed him to run away from smaller athletes and even run the 400 meter dash on the MacArthur 1600 meter relay.
This past year Jace caught 56 passes for 866 yards and eleven touchdowns for the Brahmas. He was first team All State at tight end and was selected to the prestigious USA Today first team All American squad. In basketball, he averaged over seven points a game, was a dominate rebounder and many times would be leading a fast break down the floor. In track, Jace broke a 23 year old District 26-5A shot put record with a throw of 62 feet 10 inches. He won the regional track meet and earned a silver medal with a second place finish at the state meet.
This next school year, Jace Amaro will represent Texas Tech University in football. The North East Athletic department congratulates Jace and thanks him for the memories he has provided as a tremendous representative of MacArthur Brahma athletics in three sports. Best wishes for a successful career as a Red Raider.
