Sarah Gibson – State Swimming Champion
Recently at a meeting of the North East School Board, a large number of athletes were recognized for reaching at least the semifinals of their team sport or 4th place in the state in an individual sport. Special recognition was given to those individuals who have won a state title in athletics in the 2012-2013 school year. Sarah Gibson’s accomplishments in swimming were inadvertently overlooked during the recognition ceremony. The North East athletic department wishes to correct that omission by confirming not only the state championship but some other special accomplishments of Sarah Gibson who is a senior at Reagan High School.
- State Swimming Champion – UIL Class 5A 100 Meter Freestyle
- Finished 2nd in the 200 Meter Freestyle and swam on the 5th place 400 Meter Relay Team
- 5A Female Swimmer of the Year and National Merit Finalist
Coach Mike Sansavera of Reagan High School when asked about Sarah Gibson made the following comment. “I have never seen an athlete that I have trained who has performed at such a high level and persevered through an injury that almost ended her career. Sarah Gibson was an outstanding performer and leader on the Reagan swim team.”
