The talents and efforts of our
very own "volunteer extraordinaire", Sid Lestz, were showcased in
the Spring 2005 edition of the North East Connections.
His talents and efforts were recognized on the back page of the
publication which is sent to all residents living within the
boundaries of the NEISD school district. The following is an
excerpt of that article:
- Started as a community volunteer
at the Academy of Creative Education (ACE) in February 1997. Plans
to be a lifelong volunteer.
- Currently volunteers an average of three hours a day for three
days a week at ACE.
- A retired engineer from the Southwest Research Institute who
tutors mainly in math and science.
- Received the State Board of Education Heroes for Children Award in
September 2003.
- Loved by students and staff so much that one year they designated
a day as Sid Lestz Day to honor him.
- Volunteered as a soccer coach in North East while his children
were attending school.
Quote: "I volunteer to
help students become focused on their goals at this point in
life and to help turn them in a worthy direction."
