North East ISD Highly Qualified Report SummaryNovember 27, 2012
The federal education law, known as No Child Left Behind, requires teachers to be highly qualified if they are the Teacher of Record providing direct instruction to students in any core academic subject area, including English, reading or language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages (languages other than English), civics and government, economics, arts, history, and geography.
Highly qualified teachers must:
· Hold at least a bachelor’s degree;
· Be fully certified to teach in Texas; and
· Demonstrate competency in their core academic subject area
In Texas, districts must report the number of highly qualified teachers to the Texas Education Agency in November of each school year. In North East ISD, 100 percent of teachers meet the state highly qualified requirements, and all teachers are certified to teach under state law.
