Incoming sixth-graders to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Academy are working in teams to construct a tower made of only paper and tape that will hold a tennis ball for thirty seconds. S.T.E.M. is the district's newest magnet program and was developed with a $750,000 grant to the district. S.T.E.M. will open with a sixth grade class at Nimitz Middle School and a ninth grade class at Lee High School. This is a college-preparatory magnet program based on innovative mathematics and science instruction.
