The dark clouds looming over Heroes Stadium didn’t spoil the fun at the first day of this year’s North East ISD Elementary Track and Field event. The three-day event starting on Tuesday, May 16, led by the District’s Physical Education and Health Department, gives hundreds of students the opportunity to demonstrate their athletic skills for family and friends. The stands were filled and the cheers were loud, as fourth through fifth grade students from all 46 elementary campuses will participate in activities such as an obstacle course, standing long jump, disk toss, 800-meter run and 4 x 100 meter relays. Students grasped their winning ribbons with delight as each was scored based on standards for every event.
Elementary Track and Field is a phenomenal athletic event for NEISD students, but it wouldn’t be possible without a huge, collaborative effort by all K-12 campuses in the District. Elementary PE teachers, middle school coaching staff, high school athletes and Blossom Athletic Center staff work together to ensure that this event is a huge success every year. The event also gives high school athletes the experience of serving as interns, allowing them to help in all the activities. Some interns jogged with elementary students as they encouraged them across the finish line. A wonderful and inspiring event, NEISD’s Track and Field Day fully defines the District’s Tradition of Excellence.
