Olmos Robotics takes home grand prize for invention

On May 13, the Olmos Elementary School Robotics Team brought three Inventions Teams to the 2017 North East ISD Robotics Showcase at Blossom Athletic Center to compete in the Elementary Robotics Inventions Competition. All three inventions teams were composed of 5th graders from the Olmos Robotics Team and coached by Debbie Mollicone and mentored by Tom O'Brien and Araceli Rios.

Each elementary inventions team had to create and develop a unique robotic invention that would solve a real world problem. The teams approached their problem as a team of engineers and worked together to solve their problem using the Engineering Design Process. The Judges looked for evidence that all members of the team participated throughout the design process, thoroughly researched the problem, provided creative solutions and showed enthusiasm when presenting their invention. Teams were judged on their robot design, board design/display, team presentation skills and overall spirit of invention.

Olmos Robotics Team members, Jose, Joseph and Miguel, from Team "FarmerBot" won the award for Outstanding Board Design and Display. Tony and Gianni, from Team "SafeClean", won the Spirit of Inventions award. Diego, Abigail and Jared, from Team "D.A.S.S. (Door Attached Security System)", won the overall grand prize award as the Grand Master Inventors. Congratulations to our amazingly creative robotics inventors!
