NEISD celebrates its dedicated school nurses

school -nurses-day

Health Services leadership and staff are recognized by Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, Superintendent of Schools, and Board President Shannon Grona.

Last week, North East ISD honored its teachers and school nutrition employees as part of National Teacher Appreciation Week and School Nutrition Employee Week. Arm in arm with our teachers and school nutrition employees, are the nurses at each of the District’s campuses who help care for NEISD students. These incredibly significant members of the North East family are honored during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, and especially on School Nurses Day on Wednesday, May 10. Director of Health Services Maria T. Perez read a proclamation at the Monday evening Board Meeting on May 8.

For many NEISD students, our nurses are the only health care providers they see on a regular basis. They not only treat illnesses and injuries, but also conduct health screenings, monitor student immunizations, offer referral information, and provide educational health activities and information. This recognition is greatly deserved given the impact they have on our students' health and well-being.

The school nurse plays a very important role in the educational process, as they dedicate themselves to the promotion of health & wellness, in addition to the prevention of illness in students. By focusing efforts on early detection and correction of health problems, NEISD nurses are passionate contributors to the District’s longstanding Tradition of Excellence. So on School Nurses Day be sure to stop by the nurses office to give them a pat on the back and a big thank you for all they do for our students.
