NEISD honors Teachers of the Year

North East ISD recognized "the best of the best" at the annual Teacher of the Year Banquet Wednesday, May 3 at The Club at Sonterra. This highly anticipated event could not have come at a better time considering that NEISD, along with the nation, is celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week.

The event honors each of the Campus Teachers of the Year from NEISD but only two teachers were named District Teachers of the Year. The judging committee, made up of six previous campus teachers of the year, selected an Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year. Elementary Teacher of the Year is Angela Leonhardt, Hidden Forest Elementary School. Secondary Teacher of the Year is Faryn Miller, Academy of Creative Education.

All attendees were treated to dinner at The Club at Sonterra and were entertained by music provided by the Reagan High School String Ensemble led by Sixto Elizondo. Each teacher also received gifts and awards from the Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian G. Gottardy and the Executive Staff.

"Long before Nike began promoting their motto ‘Just Do It,’ teachers have been pushing aside mountains to educate the minds of your children,” said Gottardy. “It’s because of their unyielding spirit, work ethic, and dedication to their students that we celebrate each them tonight.”

Each Teacher of the Year was presented with an award, a book, a leather-bound journal, NEISD pen, and a check for $45.

"It is only fitting that tonight we celebrate our great teachers," said Gottardy. "Each of you cares about your campus, your students, and the community that makes up NEISD, and because of that we are better because of you."
