Madison High School sets up for the school's feature band performance.

The 79th Battle of Flowers Band Festival, held on April 27, brought together 30 local high school marching bands in Alamo Stadium. Entitled, “Blazing Trails,” North East ISD marching bands were well represented at the musical event. Johnson and Reagan high schools earned first and second place respectively. In addition, MacArthur High School took home the Peoples Choice award, and Madison High School basked in the special opportunity to perform a full marching show as this year’s Featured Band.

The Band Festival is undoubtedly one of Fiesta’s most popular events. Some of the highlights includes Herald Trumpets saluting Fiesta royalty, parades of high stepping bands with colorful flags and twirlers, and specially chosen feature bands performing their award-winning UIL shows for the crowd. At the end of the evening, all 4,800 musicians performed together on the field in a spectacular crowd-pleasing finale set to fireworks.
