Celebrating our teachers and school nutrition employees

This week, North East ISD is honoring two groups of special and vital members of the North East family – teachers and school nutrition employees. May 1-5 is both National Teacher Appreciation Week and School Nutrition Employee Week. These two groups truly go hand-in-hand in the educational experience for our students. Without the energy provided by a healthy and delicious school meal, our teachers dedicated efforts in the classroom would go to no avail.

Our teachers are considered a major voice for the District for both students and parents. That personal relationship is so important, and their ability to engage and empower students must be at such a high level. That is why the district seeks to hire the best educators motivated to teacher for years to come.

Every school year teachers face a new day of challenges as they strive to keep students on their individual path to success. In working tirelessly to achieve their goal to improve the lives of children day in and day out – awards, accolades and recognitions are often put on the backburner. That’s what makes National Teacher Appreciation Week so important.

Arm in arm with our teachers, are the School Nutrition Employees at each of our campuses who feed our students. The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day. NEISD school nutrition employees must balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and delicious meals are served to our students every day. The staff navigates student food allergies, focuses on promoting healthy offerings, and provides service with a smile. This recognition is greatly deserved given the impact these school nutrition professionals have on our students' health and well-being.

If you haven’t already done so, shake a teacher’s and a school nutrition employee’s hand or give them a pat on the back, and let them know how much you appreciate what they do for our students.
