North East ISD Family,

This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week! So, I want to take an opportunity to recognize these special and vital members of the North East ISD family. Our teachers are often considered the backbone of North East ISD. They are the faces that greet students and parents every single day. That personal relationship is so important, and with their ability to encourage students to imagine, explore and discover, our teachers truly influence the future of the San Antonio community and beyond. That is why the District has always strived to hire and retain the best of the best.

Taking on the challenge of being an educator is no easy task. The job is demanding and can be difficult, especially with increased testing, limited resources and additional duties outside of the classroom. In working tirelessly to achieve their goals to improve the lives of children day in and day out—the accolades and recognitions teachers deserve are often overlooked—so allow me to once again say how proud I am of their dedication and accomplishments. If you haven’t already done so, shake a teacher’s hand or give them a pat on the back, and let them know how much you appreciate what they do.

May 2 is National Teacher Appreciation Day—the day the country pays homage to those who have answered the calling to teach. The following day, North East ISD will honor its own educators with the annual NEISD Teacher of the Year banquet. Every year, teachers of the year are selected from each of our campuses. The 2017 NEISD Teacher of the Year award is given to one elementary teacher and one secondary teacher. The announcement will be made at the banquet.

There is no question that the teaching profession has become more important than ever before, and at the same time more challenging than ever before. Once again, I want to thank our NEISD teachers for what they do for kids throughout this school District every day.

Sincerely,

Brian G. Gottardy, Ed.D.
