On April 12, Texas Construction Career Initiative sponsored the annual Construction Career Day which was held at the Freeman Coliseum. The event is on its 4th year and encourages young people to weigh out their career options in the construction field. Each year at the event area schools are challenged to compete in a bathroom build off in a 4-hour time period. The teams are tasked with the problem of constructing a fully functional bathroom.
The 4-man team is to build the structure according to commercial codes that include electrical rough-in, wiring, and finish work, in addition to sheetrock work, plumbing rough-in, and finish work. The team works as a unit as they place all sheetrock, pipes, and electrical boxes within the structure.
This year's event was well attended as eight area construction programs faced off in the competition. Coming in first place was North East ISD’s very own Reagan High School. Reagan’s team members were Michael Chunat, Thomas Dowell, Stockton Harker, and Emilio Ramon. Second place was awarded to the Construction Career Academy of NSID, and third place was awarded to Boerne High School. The teams worked extremely hard throughout the build and they all finished strong. Way to go Rattlers!
