Third grade Gifted and Talented students from 15 different elementary schools in North East ISD had the opportunity to participate in the third annual #techademy held at Encino Park Elementary on April 11. Participating schools included: Castle Hills, Canyon Ridge, Cibolo Green, Coker, Encino Park, Harmony Hills, Huebner, Longs Creek, Northwood, Oak Meadow, Stone Oak, Tuscany Heights, Vineyard Ranch, Wilshire, and Wilderness Oak Elementary Schools.
During the #techademy field trip, students had the opportunity to practice systems thinking and culminate their learning about computer programming. The #techademy also gave students the chance to work with other Gifted and Talented third graders from across the district and their teachers. Students participated in numerous “techy” experiences utilizing multiple devices, video game design, circuit creation, inventions, coding, and robotics. Third graders also had a chance to listen to Justin Moore, a remote pilot and aerial photographer who works with drones. He shared about his job, drone technology, and basics of flight! The kids enjoyed having a question and answer session with him and learning more about drone technology. It was a great day of learning and fun! We are looking forward to planning next year’s event!
