NEISD recognized for worksite wellness efforts
The San Antonio Business Group on the Health (SABGH), in collaboration with the Mayor’s Fitness Council recognized San Antonio businesses through the 2014 Healthy Workplace Recognition Program. North East ISD earned the recognition in the medium and large worksite category, receiving an official plaque and trophy.
Employers were recognized for their work to improve employees’ health through their worksite wellness initiatives and awarded a bronze, silver or gold-level recognition in two categories 1) small worksites (up to 200 employees) and 2) medium and large worksites (more than 200 employees). To meet these standards, employers must prove senior management support of employer-sponsored wellness programs and provide examples of company culture that encourages health and wellness, health promotion and education, physical activity, nutrition, smoking and tobacco cessation, and employer-sponsored health benefits.
NEISD continues to promote health & wellness through a variety of programs and resources provided for employees. Some of these include the newly renovated NEISD Fitness Center, Weight Watchers, Team NEISD (marathon running and cycling), and health education resources on the district intranet.
The Healthy Workplace Recognition Program was launched as a pilot project in July 2010 and has been growing since. The pilot elicited 10 applicants with 9 meeting the criteria for one of the three recognition levels. In 2013, 38 employers applied and this year 46 employers applied for recognition.
