NEISD celebrates National Library week, April 13-19

National Library Week

National Library Week is April 13 – 19 and to celebrate NEISD librarians a Proclamation was read at the Monday evening Board Meeting on April 14.

Librarians have many responsibilities, such as ordering books, promoting online databases, assisting with copyright questions, updating web pages, training staff, and much more, but first and foremost they are teachers. Recognition was made for librarians in attendance who had been nominated on their campuses for either the Trinity University Prize for Excellence in Teaching or Teacher of the Year.

As school year 2013 – 2014 began, Library Services rolled out a new logo and vision for district library programs, “Transforming Information into Knowledge”. Recently each librarian was asked to develop and submit a Library Transformation Plan. They were asked to consider the main objectives of the library program and space, experiences that should be offered in the library, and students’ current and future needs regarding libraries. Librarians were also asked to include input from students, staff members, and administrators as the plans were crafted. All 66 librarians submitted a plan, including a newly created Library Mission Statement.
