NEISD Represented at Construction Career day
Madison students take part in the event activities.
The Build Your Future (BYF) initiative teamed up with industry partners in San Antonio to host the first ever Construction Career Day on April 9 at the Freeman Coliseum. Approximately eight hundred students packed into the expo hall to watch equipment and welding demonstrations; speak with local employers in the construction industry; and visit booths representing various professions in construction. MacArthur, Madison and Reagan high schools had a great time at the event.
Electrical Systems Technology students at MacArthur had a great time at the event.
It wasn’t all fun and games for the MacArthur and Reagan students, as they were competing at the event. Both teams did a great job at representing North East ISD.
“The Builder’s Exchange of Texas is one of the groups that is hosting this event, and they are great partner for our department and district,” Johnny Vahalik, director of career and technical education at NEISD. “They have provided training for our teachers, and they run an afterschool program, the PACE Program, each semester where NEISD students attend to receive instruction related to architecture and construction careers.”
The students had the opportunity to interact with more than one hundred construction volunteers willing and ready to share their knowledge. Students and their instructors at all three NEISD schools are hoping this first ever event becomes and annual tradition.
