Madison's FFA Team wins state championship

Nursery Landscape State Champion

The 2014 FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development team.

The Madison High School FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event team was named the 2014 Texas FFA State Champion in early May at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The win advances the team of four to the national competition that will take place during the 2014 National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, Oct. 29 through Nov. 1.

Team members Layne Garza, Victoria Gilcrease, and Samantha Kinsey, all seniors at Madison, and Jordan Doria, a freshman, competed in the multifaceted competition that encourages members to apply their landscaping, marketing and service skills as they complete a written exam; identify various landscaping plant materials; and evaluate plant materials and landscape plans.

The state contest consisted of 50 teams from across the state of Texas. Top 10 awards were given to the high scoring individuals of the contest, and the results were as follows:  Doria, 2nd High Individual, Garza, 1st High Individual, and Kinsey, 4th High Individual. The team was coached by Joshua Anderson who is a faculty member of the Agriscience Magnet Program at Madison.
