The Jackson-Keller family celebrates reading
Students and teachers had a great time dressing as their favorite storybook characters.
Jackson-Keller Elementary School students and their families recently celebrated reading in style! Students and teachers dressed as their favorite story book characters and celerated reading and writing by participating in numerous Literacy Centers and games. Each grade level hosted a table which included at least two Literacy Centers and one iPad related Language Arts game.
The San Antonio Public Library was present at the event to help students and their families sign up for free library cards, and Half-Price Books made a generous donation of books for students to choose from. Each chiild left with a bag full of literacy related items, which included books, games, pencils, bookmarks, and more! They also received a coupon for a free dinner at local restaurants such as Whataburger, Earl of Sandwich, and Chilis.
Four families left the event with a Thanksgiving turkey to help them celebrate the holiday! Two computer labs were open for families to come and learn about the Library Portal and explore programs such as IStation and Ticket to Read. Overall, it was a night full of fun with visits from characters such as Wendy from PETER PAN, the tree from THE GIVING TREE, Judy Moody and her brother Stink, Mickey Mouse, The Grouchy Ladybug, and more!
