Churchill student takes japanese speech skills to state

The 25th Annual Statewide Japanese Speech Contest took place on March 8 at Rice University in Houston. Rozelle De Silos, 9th grade student at Churchill High School, won first place in Division 1 - poetry recitation.

"Rozelle has devoted lots of extra time to practice in order to memorize her poem," said Yuka Kato, Japanese Speech instructor at Churchill and Johnson High School's. "All the hard work paid off! Please congratulate her when you see her."

The young students is coming off a second place win at the regional speech contest that took place at San Antonio college in early February.
