Bush Orchestras EARN UIL SWEEPSTAKES Awards
Both of Bush Middle School's Orchestra bands left the 2014 UIL competition with sweepstakes awards. The group can now claim bragging rights for the rest of the school year, as both groups received top scores on stage and sightreading at the competition hosted by Krueger Middle School on March 19-20.
After performing musical pieces they have been sharpening up all school year and earning a top score of "1," the band went on to the most difficult part of the contest: sightreading. The sightreading portion tests each student musician's knowledge of their instrument and music notation.
Orchestra Director Christy Newman briefly counted each measure as students were given a few minutes to look over a piece of music that they've never played. The students performed confidently, earning a top score of "1" in the sightreading portion.
Congratulations to Christy Newman and her orchestra students for their latest musical accomplishments.
