White hosts 3rd annual back to school fair

DATE: Aug 13
TIME: 9 am - 1 pm
LOCATION: White ms, 7800 Midcrown Drive

White Middle School, in partnership with City of San Antonio District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor, CentroMed, and Rackspace will host its third Annual Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 13 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The event will be a community effort that provides school supplies, haircuts, immunizations, and resource assistance for families in the surrounding area of the school who are low income and/or experiencing circumstances in their life that make it challenging to prepare their children for going back to school.

Paul Mitchell, Today Dentistry Today, Food Bank, and SAWS, along with other local businesses, organizations and volunteers, will participate in the event.

The purpose of the Back to School Fair is to reduce the number of students who return to school without the proper school supplies, social services and required health exams. Additionally, the fair provides an opportunity to increase awareness and availability of education, health and social services for parents and guardians of participating school children.

In order to take advantage of the services and supplies, children must be in grades K - 12, enrolled in NEISD schools, be from families who live in the District 2 area, and qualify from an income perspective.

According to the NEISD Campus Data, 76 percent of the students at White are economically disadvantaged. Many of these families are not able to provide their children with mandatory immunizations or required school supplies. In an effort to address this issue, school staff and Councilwoman Taylor have continued to coordinate the annual Back to School Fair.
