Wetmore student council helps tornado victims
The Wetmore Elementary School Student Council decided to make a difference to help the tornado victims in Moore, Oklahoma. At the last council meeting, Lynda Negrete, student council sponsor, reported the students spoke of footage from the massive tornado that destroyed homes and two elementary schools.
The students immediately wanted to help. The Student Council presented a check to The American Red Cross for $1,000. The money was donated from sales through their school store. In November, the Wetmore community also donated money to the American Red Cross with their successful Cents for Sandy campaign.
“The best thing about being a principal is helping foster leadership in students and staff," said Jeffrey Owens, principal at Wetmore. "Our Wetmore Student Council is a great example of leading with the heart! It is a privilege to serve as a leader of compassionate kids wanting to help the fellow students of Moore, Oklahoma.”
The American Red Cross explained to the council how the donations would aid in the rebuilding process. They were impressed with the students and their passion to help others in need.
