PTA Go Green Night and Earth week were Fun for all
Thousand Oaks Elementary School students and parents enjoyed PTA Go Green Night, a fun and educational event, on April 30.
Families came and went during the two hour event, but all left with increased knowledge about earth-friendly practices, as well as various goodies.
Informational booths offered games and activities to support “being green.” To encourage families to visit the various stations, a scavenger hunt was available. Upon completion of gathering information about protecting our environment, the students were rewarded with “I made a difference” spirit sticks.
In addition, students had the opportunity to reuse recyclable items for golfing, bowling and relay games. They further explored the art of reuse by building with cans and constructing bird feeders, plastic flowers and newspaper hats.
Home Depot provided flowers, rocks and soil, allowing students to plant flowers to take home. H-E-B donated reusable bags. CPS Energy as well as the San Antonio River Authority sent representatives to share information on energy-saving ways and water pollution, respectively.
During the week of April 15-19, the campus also celebrated Earth week with a theme centered around Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. Throughout the week students discussed environmental awareness, recycling, conservation and animal protection along with wearing "earthy" colors and sporting yellow mustaches!
