David Lee "Tex" Hill announces colors and mascot
David Lee “Tex” Hill Middle School is proud to announce its school colors and mascot. NEISD Board members approved the school colors of Royal Blue, Carolina Blue and Cardinal Red in February 2012.
Several weeks ago, Tex Hill Principal, Rudy Jimenez, worked with administration, 5th grade teachers, and 5th grade students at Cibolo Green and Bulverde Creek Elementary Schools to generate ideas for the mascot. Each 5th grade class sent their top three mascot choices. From this pool, three mascots were chosen as finalists.
The top three potential mascots were then voted on by 5th grade students at Cibolo Green and Bulverde Creek Elementary Schools and by 6th and 7th grade Social Studies students at Tejeda Middle School.
After a very close vote, the students decided Tex Hill’s mascot will be a tiger.
The significance behind the tiger as a mascot is that David Lee “Tex” Hill was a World War II fighter pilot who was a member of the 1st American Volunteer Group. The “Flying Tigers” were praised for their heroic actions during World War II. The mascot choice will allow for Tex Hill Middle School to continue honoring the memory of one of this nation’s greatest wartime aviators.
We look forward to creating a lasting legacy of success for Tex Hill Middle School.
