Tejeda aims to make a difference

DATE: Oct. 26
TIME: 9am - 12pm
LOCATION: Tejeda MS, 2909 Evans Rd.

Tejeda Middle School's theme for the 2013-2014 school year is Making a Difference: Our Kids, Our School. As an effort to put this theme into practice outside of the classroom and school day, Tejeda will be participating in National Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Tejeda Middle School. Not only will this allow students to gain community service hours for various clubs and organizations, but it will allow students, parents, staff members, and community members to come together to make a difference for others beyond our school building.

There will be four different service activities planned for Make a Difference Day. These activities will be completed in shifts in order for everyone to have a chance to work with each project.

Kids Against Hunger: Volunteers will package meals which will be sent to orphanages in Mexico that struggle to provide food for the children living there. “The mission of Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization, is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world”. Daily Bread Ministries will be at Tejeda to facilitate this project for us and will ship the food packaged to Mexico.

Neighborhood Beautification: Tejeda’s Get Fit Club will be accepting student volunteers to beautify surrounding neighborhoods. Transportation to and from Tejeda to the neighborhood will be provided by school buses.

Operation Gratitude: Support our troops by writing letters to Wounded Warriors or active military.

Hygiene Drive Collection: Greet community members and package unused hygienic items (shampoo, soap, body wash, shaving gel/cream, aftershave, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, lotion/moisturizer, razors, brushes, hair products, feminine products, and makeup). Daily Bread Ministries will deliver these items to San Antonio’s homeless community and other shelters, such as battered women’s shelters.

If you or someone you know would like to join us for one or more of the following rotations, please sign up on the Tejeda webpage or by clicking here.

For questions about this event, please contact the counseling office. All volunteers must be DPS cleared to participate. Thank you for supporting Tejeda’s efforts to participate in National Make a Difference Day!
