Tejeda students bring home the gold
When sixth grader Alyssa Delgado and seventh grader Gabby Foster came to Tejeda Middle School on Thursday, May 16, they did not expect to be called to the main office by Principal Shelton over the announcements.
Both girls are still readjusting to the time change since returning from Sofia, Bulgaria where they competed in the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Cup competition. Competing in a trio, Alyssa, Gabby and third partner Sofia represented the United States, competing against nine other teams from countries including Bulgaria, France, Israel and Germany in their age group and category.
The FIG (Federation of International Gymnastics) hosted over 22 countries for the competition which took place over a span of three days. The USA earned two spots on the medal stand with a Silver score of 81.50 and Gold going to Alyssa Delgado, Gabby Foster and their teammate with a score of 82.25 out of a perfect score of 90. The girls were handpicked and coached by Vladimir Vladev.
The families of the two girls and their coach were invited to surprise Alyssa and Gabby during the morning announcements and were able to present them with flowers, balloons and a small reception. The entire staff and student body wish them luck in their upcoming competitions in Dallas and Boerne, Texas and at Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky in July.
