Tejeda Academic team dominates

The Tejeda Middle School Academic team won all three Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) State Qualifier Meets held in the San Antonio Area recently. The team won the meets hosted by Eisenhower Middle School on Feb. 23, Bush Middle School on Mar. 2, and the Regional Meet at Medina Valley High School on Mar. 9.

The Timberwolves have also qualified thirty-six participants for the State Meet to be held in San Antonio on April 6. The leading qualifier for Tejeda is seventh grader Sandra Moon, who qualified in all four events; Number Sense, Calculator, Math and Science. Eighth grader Ian Xia qualified in the three math events; Number Sense, Calculator and Math. Two sixth graders have also qualified in three events; Nicole Fang in Calculator, Math and Science, while Alexander Lomeli-Azoubel qualified in Number Sense, Calculator and Math.

The Calculator team of eighth graders Justin Castellanos, Hope Cooksey, Ashwin Venkatesh and sixth grader Nicole Fang won the first place trophy for the 5A Division at Regionals. The Science team made up of eighth graders Justin Castellanos, Niklas Siebert and Jonathan Yakey along with seventh grade George Tharakan won the second place trophy for 5A schools at the Regional meet.

The Science team is coached by Amy Henning and Jennifer Castellanos. The Calculator team is coached by Lynn Bodet.
