Roosevelt JROTC passes guidon to new cadet leaders
On Sept. 28 the Roosevelt High School JROTC drill pad, the Roughrider Battalion conducted its annual Assumption of Command Ceremony. The ceremony is a time-honored tradition, which formally symbolizes the continuity of authority, as the command is passed from one individual to another.
The event’s sequence models the United States Army Drill and Ceremony. The early morning ceremony and after-ceremony open house were met by a very impressive turnout of the 183 cadets and their parents. Parents were awed with the appearance, smoothness and military bearing of the battalion leaders and cadets. The ceremony ended with a surprise by Army Instructors LTC Foutz and SFC Brown, as they presented cadets on both drill and rifle teams with their letterman jackets for achieving varsity level the past year.
